Safer Internet Day

7 February 2017 (by Russ Payne (rpayne))

We're discussing the power of the image...

Safer Internet Day 2017 started with an assembly which challenged us to think about 'when' and 'what' images we should share online. We discussed how we wouldn't share personal information with people we don't know, but it's easy to do that with a photo posted online or sent to friends. We explored what clues about our personal information might be given away in an image if we're not mindful, we realised how important getting permission from someone before we share their image, and we also saw how we lose 'control' over an image as soon as we post or share it - we have no say over what someone else does with the image once they have it. We were pleased to welcome one of our parent governors, Eleanor Amos, to join KS2 for the assembly this morning and she then visited several classes this afternoon. She said how impressed she was with the online safety work she saw, commenting on how well teachers adapted the discussions and learning to suit the ages and needs of the children, and how, when she spoke to the children, they clearly understood the things they’d learned today about keeping themselves safe online. You can read lots more about Safer Internet Day on our Online Safety page on the school website. The children will be making some special online safety fridge-magnets today, which will be going home to help remind everyone how to keep safe online.
