School Council

The School Council enables pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. In keeping with both our school values and our British values, the School Council benefits the whole school because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made.

Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.

Who can be a member of the School's Council?

We have an active School Council made up from a boy and girl from each class in Years 1-6, who represent their fellow pupils. Following short presentations explaining why they should be chosen, each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year.

What do we do?

Members of the council take part in discussions and votes and also feedback any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council. Members meet regularly.

What have we done so far?

Over the past year, the Council have:

  • organised fund-raising events to buy a set of iPads

  • raised money for a huge number of new books for the library

  • been actively involved in the design of some new playground games

  • worked alongside the PTA in the delivery of a friendship bench for the playground

  • been involved in the training of our Peer Mentors.
