Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

Welcome back!

For terms 5 and 6, our topic is 'Tanks, Troops and Terrible Trenches’ in which we will be studying World War One. We will be starting off with what caused the war and exploring the political climate of the time.

Our topic will kick off with a visit from a local historian, discussing Purton's links to The Great War.

As we draw closer to SATS, please read with your child daily and ensure that they know their times tables and related division facts up to 12 x12.

Please read the instructions for homework carefully, particularly when it states how long we expect you to be doing it for and when it is due in.

1) 5-10 minutes of shared reading with an adult at home per day - record in reading diary.
2) 15 minutes of spelling or grammar homework a week.
3) 15 minutes of either Abacus online or a paper copy of maths.
4) A termly project style homework where there will be a choice of 4 activities to choose from.

Whilst we encourage our older pupils to become increasingly more independent in their final year at school, we still encourage a close relationship with parents and carers, so please feel free to contact us and we can then arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss any queries or concerns in a timely manner.

Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times, that it meets uniform expectations and that it fits! PE for Year 6 takes place on Mondays and Fridays.

Kind Regards

The Year 6 Team
