Year 6's mock court trial!

23 June 2017 (by Jess Jones (jjones))

In response to Miss Jones' jury service later this term, Year 6 held a court trial of their own - the case of the Big Bad Wolf vs the Three Little Pigs!

Both year 6 classes started the day by learning about the criminal justice system, including the structure of a court case and why juries are important. Afterwards, through drama, we conducted a realistic crown court trial for Alexander T. Wolf (who was accused of eating 2 little pigs and damaging their homes). Prosecution and defence barristers worked hard to use the evidence to prove their arguments and thoroughly question the witnesses. Meanwhile, the jurors listened and made notes, whilst the Judge kept order in court. After a dramatic and eventful 2 hour trial, the jurors went to deliberate. The verdicts were as follows: Class 13 - Hung jury - Judge Gordon has ordered a re-trial Class 14 - Alexander T. Wolf was found guilty on all counts with a majority verdict Both classes had great fun, with a couple of children aspiring to become the barristers of the future!
