Year 6 - Class 13

Teacher: Miss Jones
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Southern

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to a new term!

For terms 1 and 2, our topic is 'Biomes and Beyond’ in which we will immerse ourselves in the astounding geography and culture of the world's continents. In practical topic sessions, we will explore the scientific theory of evolution, learn to read a variety of maps and create several pieces of animal-based art .

Our topic will kick off with a 'WOW day' in which children in Year 5 and 6 will swap between classes to explore 4 of the world's main biomes and complete an artistic challenge in each.

As we draw closer to SATS, please read with your child daily and ensure that they know their times tables and related division facts up to 12 x12.

Please read the instructions for homework carefully, particularly when it states how long we expect you to be doing it for and when it is due in.

1) 5-10 minutes of shared reading with an adult at home per day - record in reading diary.
2) 15 minutes of spelling or grammar homework a week.
3) 15 minutes of either Abacus online or a paper copy of maths.
4) A termly project style homework where there will be a choice of 4 activities to choose from.

Whilst we encourage our older pupils to become increasingly more independent in their final year at school, we still encourage a close relationship with parents and carers, so please feel free to contact us and we can the arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss any queries or concerns in a timely manner.

Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times, that it meets uniform expectations and that it fits! PE for Year 6 takes place on Mondays and Fridays.

Kind Regards

The Year 6 Team
